Jazz Keyboard 1

Finally there is a proven, step-by-step approach to playing keyboards that develops the ability to play music spontaneously, and play what you hear! Not only does this course feature an approach that is based on playing what you hear, it is reinforced with play-along tracks (bass and drums) for every exercise in each lesson. This means that you are able to experience the 'feel' and energy that comes from playing with others. You can't really do it any other way.

Based on Dick Grove's many years of experience teaching his very successful Keyboard instruction Program at the Grove School of Music, the course is now reformatted into an easy, step-by-step series of goals and exercises, all emphasizing eartraining at the keyboard. Best of all, if you have a question, or problems, you can call or email us- we are available for you. This course is extremely organized. You have play along tracks that you can practice with as much as you need. Where else could you get the experience of playing with great players, such as Adrian Rosen on bass, and Jack Lacompte on drums? On one track you hear Dick playing what you will play, then you can pan channels, and you are on your own, with the bass and drums. Every exercise has this format. In Lesson 1 there are over 40 exercises, all with the rhythm section. There are detailed practice routines to lead you through each lesson.

This course is also ideal for musicians who play another instrument and wish to develop a keyboard facility, beginners who need a rock steady foundation from which to grow, and keyboardists who realize that their ear is not really working for them. It is particularly effective for the classically trained pianist, for when you have technique, can read and play properly, it develops your ear to be spontaneous. The course lays the foundation for transposing, improvising, vocal accompaniment, comping and solo piano.

To get started you'll have a phone consultation with our staff, and if you need prerequisites, we will have you start with the early chapters of his 'See it - Hear it/ Hear it - Play it' musicianship course.

Starting with Jazz Keyboard 1, you are on your way to playing spontaneously and playing what you hear!! No matter what anyone tells you, it is not possible to really play jazz unless you can do both of these things. The courses uniquely gets your ear connected to your fingers, in a satisfying and progressively advancing manner. The first course starts where you need to start, with Definitive Voicings.
