How to Make Great Cakes with Cake Decorating Concepts

If you think youre like me, youre always on the lookout for new cake decorating ideas, especially ones that are a bit unique than what everyone else is doing. Its fun to hear others enviously ask, Where do you come up with such one-of-a-kind ideas?

When replying, I tell them a white lie, that Im just trying to be artistic. Or I reply to them honestly with some hints Im giving away now.

Cake decorating ideas can come from many sources, mostly from other cake decorators. And then more often than not, your imagination will be ignited, and you will put your own touch on them.

Yet, of course, its not always that inspiration is there, and so you end up going frantic for the skeletal layer of the cake but without any other decoration or icing at all.

All seems to go through that. Its part of the learning experience basically. I went through that myself but not anymore. I just utilize the Internet such as joining in forums and in Google photos for good tips.

These sites are loaded with beautiful cake decorating concepts. You can scour over forums and check out good ideas from hobbyists and pros. And if you ask for specific cake decorating ideas (like when you have a cake order to fill for a purse cake and have no idea where to begin), youre most likely to get them.

Heres a perfect example of a creative cake decorating idea. Hopefully, along the way, youll get the inspiration that you need and you get to develop your own unique cake decorating ideas.

Simple Cookie Cutter Patterns for Your Cake

Here, well utilize a star-shaped cookie cutter. Perhaps youre producing a Fourth of July cake or a baby shower cake with a Twinkle Little Star childrens theme. Another cake that uses stars would be a Congratulations cake. But you can use a cookie cutter of any shape that suits your cake decorating theme and ideas. Heres how.

1. Lightly press a star-shaped cookie cutter into the even (crusted) icing, making an impression. 2. Put icing into icing bag and form to tip into something round. 3. Draw the outline of the stars with your icing. 4. Finally, load your stars with one of the following: a. Glittering coloring dust to make the stars twinkle. b. Use icing gel. c. Cake decorating silver beads. d. Piped stars. You can make use of various colors for a Fourth of July cake. e. Your turn!

Many stores, big or small, sell cookie cutters. Cookie cutters come in all shapes and sizes!

While you look for cake decorating ideas, also think about your overall cake design ideas, which will often tell what type of decorations youll want to make use of.

You can use stencils, paper snowflakes, and sugared confectioners for your dark cakes. Stencils are also fun for holiday and seasonal cakes. Or for just a traditional and attractive design, use a lacy (and clean) doily for your stencil.
