Voice Over Internet Protocol ischeaper
than than your
standard telephone service, this is what makes
it the cats pyjamas to most people
Recently I decided to have a look at a really wicked write-up in Entrepreneur Magazine and discovered that there is a thing called a skype phone spreading over the net .You would be astounded what these two bright sparks did to make themselves a small fortune, they sold it to ebay.So why am I getting so pumped up?.It is called voice over ip.This idea of calling someone for nothing over the internet is not a new one.
So all you have is rig up a phone to your pc and you can see and talk to anyone anywhere in the world using skipe.Saying that though it is not all plain sailing as a slow connection will be of no use to you.Fantastic pictures are not guaranteed however if your connection is slow.
So I went on Ebay and guess what, they are peddling phones already due to skyp.I guess it's been around for about a year already but it's catching on fast..
Some of the commercial phone companies are already selling voip phone service..All the telecom gurus are watching voip closely thinking that maybe it will crash and burn.Is it here to stay or will it have vanished off the face of the net within 12 months.
If past experience is anything to go by then we can expect the big players to examine voip in microscopic detail. The most likely scenario is that the federal govt will want a piece of the action by regulation.Skype has to make a buck or two as well and they do this by billing consumers who phone home to their landlines from their computer.
It looks like voice over interet protocol is also at the forefront of web video conferencing as well. Voice Over IP comes pretty close, except that it will be eventually typified as an internet phone service, ready to take that next step of video conferencing which gained a lot of attention years ago.
My opinion is that audio and video over the web, especially over a broadband connection will see a shift in popularity. Some people claim that audio and video will be no big deal but I disagree, I think it will be massive.
Over the next few years we will see whether the free skype download takes off in the way many analysts predict. The question remains will voip take over from the phone.
